This morning, the husband and I were outside with a fencing company when we heard a very, very loud boom in from the distance...we looked to the South and saw a huge mound of smoke...followed by more booms and bangs...After the fencing guy left...we headed in that direction to see what the deal was...and come to find out that a local grain semi was in flames...as we were driving to it...we witnessed the lifeline helicopter heading out...and by the looks of the accident...it will be a huge surprise if the driver or drivers made it out alive...it is even scarier because the intersection it happened at is one we pass daily when we go to check cattle...
The owners of that grain semi are harvesting just down the road from us...as we passed their operation this morning...they had all left to head to the scene of the accident
This is a grim reminder as to how dangerous farmers jobs are...not only when they are in the field...but when they are out and about hauling grain, mowing roadsides or just transporting equipment from farm to farm...it is a scary thought...and my heart goes out to the family and/or families involved...

I will keep them in my thoughts and prayers!
ReplyDeleteHadn't heard of that, but I am going to try and get a letter out to the Benton Review about wide farm machinery and skinny roads with NO PLACE TO DRIVE OVER TO GET OUT OF THE WAY! These new roads are nice, but they are about 6-8 inches up from the ground, and there is very little level ditch space to drive on to get out of a combine's way. There was also a wreck on the Adeway this weekend due to over correcting and the sides of the road pulling the driver off. It might just get scary out here before it gets better!
