Harvesting Wheat!

Looks like we will be pulling the combine out to harvest our little 10 acre, soon-to-be-pasture, plot of Winter wheat this Thursday.   It wont take long at all...but is still fun to watch and be a part of.  Gavin is going to pee his pants when he realizes he gets to ride with daddy in the combine during the SUMMER...we dont normally plant wheat...we are just corn and soybeans...so its been a fun experience.

The wheat is on our 18.5 acre property...where most of it is slowly being converted into pasture so that we can bring some of our ladies closer to home.  We didnt want to just leave those acres empty through the Winter and Spring...so we decided  early Fall to plant the wheat...which will help pay for the rest of the fence...we never miss an opportunity to make a little extra money...plus it will be great for the ground.  Once the wheat is harvested...it will be baled...and once that is complete...my husband is going to head out and seed the whole thing with good quality grass...and hopefully after harvest this coming Fall...we can get the rest of the high tensile fence put up!  Never a dull moment on this farm!  And...it looks like the barn will be put up by the end of July...the pad is completely finished so we have just been waiting on our guy to finish up his other projects!  I will have to put some before and after photos up of our farm...it is amazing what we have done in the past two years!

  2. Good luck! Winter wheat is such an amazing crop to me. I think it is so cool that you can graze it and harvest it as a crop.
